Sandrene Ryan, PresidentSandrene

Sandrene Ryan is an attorney Recruitment Manager at Diamond Personnel in New York City. She manages a team of legal recruiters.

She is a founding member of the Montserrat Secondary School Association and currently serves as the current President-elect of the organization since 2013. Before being elected President, she served as the Director of Recruitment. Her goals are to establish the Mentorship Program and execute educational enrichment activities on the island of Montserrat, while connecting with both students and faculty. She is emphatically passion about the role MSSA plays in youth development and advancement.  She also firmly believes that there is a standard of education excellence we should continually strive for and maintain in order for the the country to compete on a global level and drive sustained economic growth.

Sandrene’s drive for education is in her roots: Montserratian born, her mother was an Early Childhood Educator for over 35 years in Kinsale as a teacher, principal and a key influencer in promoting education across island.

Sandrene is a loving family member, is a passionate Soca music lover, foodie, cook, traveler and reader. She would love to socialize over Julie Mangos (the real thing), Sour Sop, Manciport, Plum Rose, Kinnip - and wine!

Gary Morton - MBA,MSM, DBA Candidate, Vice Presidentgary

Mr. Morton is a Director within Liberty Mutual, a fortune 100 company with over $30 Billion in revenue.  He has been with Liberty Mutual for over 11years and held various finance roles.  He currently oversees the employee charitable giving program that provided $17.6 Million to charities across the country last year.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Bentley University; one of the top business schools in the country.  He subsequently completed his Master’s of Science Degree in Global Management.  Being a recipient of the McCallum Graduate Leadership Scholar Award, Mr. Morton also completed a MBA with a triple concentration in Operations, Technology and Real Estate Management and is currently working on a doctoral degree focusing on Project Management.

Mr. Morton is also the Owner and Principal Broker for the firm Real Estate Professionals.  The firm has helped countless families achieve wealth creation through expert buying, selling and management of properties for over twelve years.

As the current 3 year, President-elect of the National Black MBA Association, Boston Chapter, he leads a 42 member Leadership Board of seasoned professionals and has taken the organization to premier status with a mantra of “building together” and “proactive leadership”.

Before becoming the President-elect of the National Black MBA Association’s Boston chapter, he volunteered to serve as the Managing Director for the Leaders of Tomorrow (LOT) High School Mentorship Program for five years as he too is a 1993 alum of the program.  In this capacity, Mr. Morton built a solid professional team, and saw student participation in the LOT program grow over 1600%, with 100% of graduating students attending various universities.

Early in 2013, Mr. Morton was a recipient of the distinguished Martin Luther King Jr. Service Award from Bentley University for outstanding community service.  He was also voted Montserrat’s 2013 Person of the Year from MNI-Alive, a global Caribbean media house.  In 2014 he was honored by the Montserrat Progressive Society of New York during their 100th Anniversary celebration for his outstanding achievements in business.

Today, Mr. Morton also serves as the Vice-President for MSS Association (MSSA), a non-profit organization that has contributed significant learning resources and mentoring services to aid in the development of youth in his island country of Montserrat.  He also serves on the Board of Directors for The Freedom House in Boston.

Mr. Morton is a loving and dedicated husband to his wife Sinan Morton, and proud father to his 9 year old son and snowboarding champion, Jamai Morton, as well as his beautiful 5 year old daughter, Zara Morton.  He often refers to them as the Morton Team.  He is also a die-hard Patriots fan who enjoys traveling, snowboarding and motorcycling.

Dorrette Harris: Founder of the Montserrat Secondary Association Inc (MSSA), Director of Public Relationsdorrette

Dorrette Harris is one of the founding members of the Montserrat Secondary Association Inc. Dorrette grew up in Harris Village and attended the Montserrat Secondary School.

She currently works as Online Product Manager for Thomson Reuters: the world’s leading source of legal information services for businesses and professionals. She is responsible for delivering legal support for major products & services within the UK and Internationally.

Dorrette attributes her success to Montserrat Secondary and holds dear the memories and educational foundation received as a student at this academic institution as they continue to play a significant role in her life.

As a result of her time at MSS, and the education she has received, she deemed it necessary to “give back” to her secondary school and the wider community via the creation of a non profit organisation MSSA in 2008. As a founder and member of the MSSA global team, Dorrette was President of MSSA since its inception to January 2013. During her time as president Dorrette lead the team to hosting not only the first ever MSS reunion on the island but also its second reunion in 2012 both with resounding successes and as a result MSSA was able to donate over 70,000EC$ during her tenure to the Montserrat Secondary School. She was also instrumental in a joint collaboration in securing funding from Windsong Foundation for MSSA. Dorrette is passionate about” giving back” and recently started a book drive initiative which saw a donation of over 100 books this year. These were donated to local schools and organisations in her native country. As a result of the positive feedback and seeing how appreciative the recipients were Dorrette has now made this event annual amongst her network. Dorrette’s contributions to MSSA and the wider community allow her to stay connected to her country of birth whilst supporting the development of the islands youths.

As such, Dorrette became further inspirited by the work MSSA is achieving in the community and how rewarding being of service to others are. Having brought to fruition what was a thought whilst on a local beach back in 2008 having spoken to a recent graduate. She’s embarked on studying for a BSc in Development and Globalization at Birkbeck University where she’s in her final year. Upon graduating Dorrette hopes to secure a role working within the Thomas Reuters Foundation.

Ciddra Barzey-Skerritt, Director of Budget & Financeciddra

Ciddra Barzey-Skerritt is a Finance and Resources Manager within Local Government and currently holds the post of Director of Finance and Budgeting for MSSA. She hails from the beautiful village of Nixon’s, Montserrat and credits the Brades Primary School and Montserrat Secondary School for providing her with a solid foundation in education. This foundation was instrumental in her graduating with a 1st Class BSc Hons Degree in Business IT and later achieving her Post Graduate in Management.

Ciddra is passionate about all things Montserrat, particularly youth development and giving back.  This was one of the main reasons for her joining team MSSA. As the Apprenticeship Coordinator for her department, she is keen to see the MSSA Mentorship Program executed. The program aims to empower and equip youths with the necessary skills and tools to achieve their desired goal.

Ciddra has been volunteering for a number of years, working with Year 10 Secondary School students and youth groups in different boroughs preparing them for the ‘Working World’. She is also on the board of the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Group; as well as the Equalities Steering Group in her work organisation.

Ciddra says that “making my family the center of my life is one of my top priorities and that’s why where life begins with my family, my love never ends”.

She is also a former Green house student (MSS); die-hard fan and member of the Arsenal Football Club as well as the Dallas Cowboys. She loves all type of music especially soca and enjoys travelling and reading.

Rocquel Allen, Director of Findraisingrocquel

Rocquel Allen is a highly skilled professional with over twenty years’ experience across different industries which includes Health Insurance and Social Housing implementing strategies and policies to satisfy business goals.

Rocquel was born and raised in Plymouth Montserrat and attended the Montserrat Secondary School. She was a member of the girl guides and CYC where she started cultivating a passion for community involvement. Her background as well as her focus on helping the less fortunate has led her to different volunteer opportunities and her current role as a Neighbourhood Manager in Social Housing.

IRocquel has obtained a BA Hons degree in Business Studies, a Post Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management and a Master’s degree in Housing and Inclusion. Rocquel credits her attitude towards learning and her professional success to the Montserrat Secondary School Community and is honoured to be working with MSSA to give back to an institution she holds dear.

Throughout her work and personal life Rocquel has honed her interpersonal, organisational and management skills. As the Director of Fundraising for MSSA Rocquel is passionate about the work that she does and this passion combine with her skills motivate her to work hard for the change that she knows is possible.

In her spare time Rocquel enjoy watching various sports, pageantry and spending time with her family.

Sharhea Wade, Director of the Nomination CommitteeSharhea

Sharhea is solid professional who is dedicated to youth development, always gets the job done and continually raises the bar. She is a graduate of Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania.

She currently works at State Street Corporation as a Credit Analyst, and is a part¬time student in Boston University’s M.B.A. program. Sharhea is an alumna of the Posse Foundation and Summer Search Boston.

She has won awards from both Posse and the State Street Black Professional Group for her volunteer work and commitment to the organizations. She currently sits on the board of the Philanthropy Connection and Chairs the Young Philanthropist Committee.

She is also a member of the Montserrat Secondary School Association. In her spare time, she loves to read and sing until her lungs can’t take the pressure anymore. She is originally from the beautiful, volcanic island of Montserrat.

Clevelon Skerritt, Director of Communications & Web DevelopmentClevie

Montserrat Secondary Graduate, from the village of Salem on the island of Montserrat, often referring to himself a true Salemite to the core, but now resides in the UK.

Clevelon has a passion for sports in particular basketball and cricket. In his spare time when he’s not coaching a local basketball team in Leicester he enjoys listening to & producing music, DJing and developing his skills within IT.

Giving back for Clevelon is important as it gives him the opportunity to help the youths to be in a better position where they are able to reach their full potential. Having heard about MSSA from a friend and former member, Clevelon was keen to learn more about the organization and its objectives were, but more importantly how he himself can get involved.

Always drawing inspiration from those around him and close to him, Clevelon always aim to put his best effort forward and wanted to use his skills and knowhow to benefit his community at large since he joined MSSA back in 2010, and is now the Director of IT for the organization.
